Indian Kentuck Baptist Church

The Indian-Kentucky Baptist Church was founded in 1812 or 1814 with the founding pastor Robert Stephenson. The church was organized at the home of Nicholas Yount near Indian-Kentuck Creek. The first building was made of hewn logs in 1818 on Toddy’s Branch where it goes into the west fork of the Indian-Kentuck Creek above Monroe Mills. In 1821 a new building was constructed on Copeland’s Ridge and then another one followed in 1845. The 1845 building was replaced in 1865 due to a weak foundation. In 1974 the tornado that swept through the area took the historic building with it and was therefore rebuilt in 1975. From the “Churches and Church Records in Jefferson County, Indiana”, by Jackie Richards
